Please note that the TQS requires 30 credits of study to move from Category 4 to 5, and 30 additional credits AND completion of a Masters degree in order to move from Category 5 to 6. Completing SFU’s GDE will enable you to move from Category 4 to 5. Completing the 4 courses (20 additional credits) required for the MEd EP will not be sufficient to move from Category 5 to 6. An additional 10 credits will be required prior to conferring the degree in order to move to Category 6.
As of May 2008 or later, students who began the GDE at Category Four expecting to apply for admission to the MEd EP in order to obtain Category 6 will need to make their own arrangements to complete the remaining 10 credits of graduate coursework. These credits must be completed prior to conferring the degree as they must appear on the SFU transcript as part of the degree requirements. This may require one or two additional semesters of study, along with payment of tuition. Applicants who are in this situation should email edprgpa@sfu.ca to discuss alternatives for earning the additional credits.
Students who wish to obtain a Masters degree without meeting the requirements of TQS Category 6, are invited to apply to complete the 4 courses (20 credits) only. This will result in a completed MEd EP and TQS Category 5.
