Field Programs in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University offers non-credit learning opportunities for experienced educators. The focus for each program is developed collaboratively in response to needs identified within a district or districts. Needs often arise from policy and curricular changes or the desire to improve educational services in specific areas.
Field Programs will:
- meet with district representatives
- collaboratively develop the program
- develop advertising
- identify appropriate instructors/mentors
- provide liaison with instructor and district representatives
- monitor program implementation
The school district will:
- identify local needs
- meet with Field Programs staff to design program framework
- provide instructional space
- distribute advertising throughout the district
- coordinate registration
- reimburse Field Programs for services provided

Frameworks for In-Service Design:
Non-credit programs, totalling 15 to 20 contact hours, are offered in a variety of formats:
- four to six non-credit sessions (evening or weekend)
- three- to five-day summer institutes
- one- or two-day conferences with a two- to three-session follow-up
- other possible formats to accommodate district needs
Requests may come from a single district or from a group of districts.
All sessions would be offered off-campus, hosted by the sponsoring district or region.
