Additional requirements for applicants with undergraduate GPAs less than 3.0

In exceptional circumstances, a student may be admitted to the M.Ed.EP with an undergraduate GPA less than 3.0.  In such cases, the applicant must provide compelling evidence of her or his potential to succeed in and complete a rigorous program of academic study at the graduate level. This must be included in the letter of reference provided by the member of the instructional team.  The referee's comments should provide evidence of the applicant's potential based on the work undertaken to fulfill the requirements of the Graduate Diploma.

The applicant must also include a letter that describes changes in her or his commitment to learning and professional growth since the undergraduate studies were completed.  The applicant may take this opportunity to describe the conditions contributing to any academic difficulties experienced during those studies.

Applicants with undergraduate GPA's below 3.0 may be offered conditional admission. This offer will specify the requirements to be met and a limited time period within which the requirements must be met. Normally, the requirements must be fulfilled either prior to enrolling in the program, or within the first term of enrollment. For example, an applicant might be required to achieve a grade of B or better in the first course in the M.Ed.EP program.  If this condition is met, the student is fully admitted to the program. If this condition is not met, the offer of admission is revoked and the applicant may not continue in the program.

The Dean of Graduate Studies must approve any such admissions.
